Medical yoga is the practice of utilizing yoga-based techniques such as mindfulness, breathing, relaxation, and movement for therapeutic purposes. While still relatively unknown, it is becoming more recognized as a valid form of alternative medicine that offers numerous health benefits both physically and emotionally. In the East, Hindu scriptures such as the Yoga Sutras and ancient texts from other Hindu schools of thought described how yoga practices could help improve both body and mind. This combination of spiritual, mental, and physical wellbeing is known as Ayurveda, and it has become an important portion of the medical-yoga field. More recently, Medical yoga has been gaining in popularity in the West. In mainstream healthcare, yoga is being used to treat a variety of conditions such as anxiety and depression, chronic pain, obesity, diabetes, high blood pressure, and spinal cord injury. Clinical studies have demonstrated that medical yoga can be beneficial in reducing stress levels and relieving conditions related to physical and psychological illness. Given its holistic approach, medical yoga can be used to treat a range of diseases and conditions. It can also be used to promote wellbeing, disease prevention, and recovery from illness. By engaging in medical yoga, individuals can experience improved physical fitness, improved emotional health, and increased alertness and focus. It is a holistic approach to healthcare and healing that can be useful for both those with acute conditions, as well as for maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Overall, medical yoga is a powerful and helpful tool for achieving improved wellbeing both mentally and physically. It offers a safe and effective way to treat and prevent a variety of illnesses or conditions. In an effort to combine the best of traditional and modern medicines, medical yoga is quickly gaining traction as a viable form of alternative healthcare.
