Exploring human longevity: Sorting hope from hype

Speaker at Traditional Medicine, Ethnomedicine and Natural Therapies 2025 - Kenneth R Pelletier
University of California School of Medicine, United States
Title : Exploring human longevity: Sorting hope from hype

Abstract:

Biology is no longer destiny. Our DNA doesn’t determine our health and disease prospects, as geneticists once believed. According to the new science of epigenetics, the vast majority of our genes are fluid and dynamic—and their expression is shaped by what we think and what we do. Our genetic profile may signal an inherited vulnerability to a disease, but our choices and behaviors determine whether these genes will be switched on or off. Each of us can influence our genes to create optimal health and longevity.  Dr. Pelletier will discuss the latest epigenetic research, including the Ancestry.com inspired 'Heritability Study', and share timely media coverage including details of the “Blue Zone” communities around the world  and its potential impact on science. He will also cite the cutting-edge technologies that will forever change the landscape of optimal aging and longevity. We encourage you to attend and to engage with Dr. Pelletier in learning how to incorporate these new findings into your own lives.

Audience Take Away Notes:

  • Differentiate generics vs epigenetics
  • Apply practical, evidence-based epigenetic assays in practice
  • Determine "personalized nutrition" based on latest data
