Dr. Yuan Shiun Chang is a Professor of Pharmacognosy at the Department of Chinese Pharmaceutical Sciences and Chinese Medicine Resources, College of Chinese Medicine, China Medical University, Taichung, Taiwan. Dr. Chang received his Ph.D. degree in Pharmacognosy from University of Illinois at Chicago, Illinois, U.S.A. in 1989 under the supervision of the renowned late Professor Norman R. Farnsworth. Besides teaching, he had served as Head of Herbal Pharmacy of China Medical University Hospital for more than 10 years. Professor Chang had engaged in the quality control studies of TCM herbs for many years. He is the Editor in Chief of the 2nd and 3rd edition of both Chinese and English version of Taiwan Herbal Pharmacopeia (THP). He also published “Color Illustration of Taiwan Herbal Pharmacopeia” with color photos of the 300 CMMs including plants (animals) and crude herbs. Professor Chang is currently the PI for the compilation of the 4th edition of both Chinese and English version of THP which plans to be published in 2021 and 2022. Professor Chang is currently the chair of TCM drug review committee of Ministry of Health and Welfare, Taiwan. Professor Chang has also been invited since 2011 to join Hong Kong Chinese Materia Medica Standard Project, Department of Health, H.K. as a PI from China Medical University. The last contract was signed in February 1, 2019. The research work is still going on. In 2015, Professor Chang is nominated as USP HMC East Asia Expert Panel member (EP) for the period of 2015-2020; 2020-2025 with Professor De-An Guo as Chair. He was also nominated as USP Botanical Dietary Supplements and Herbal Medicine Expert Committee (EC), 2020-2025. In late 2016, he is also appointed as EDQM TCM Working Party Member, European Pharmacopeia 2017-2019; 2020-2022. To date, he has published 150 scientific papers and 27 books in TCM fields.
